A couple of things occurred to me.
1) He probably has no debt because he cant get credit.
2) He won't starve when TSHTF.

Maybe he isn't in such a bad place.

You know what ......... I think you are spot on.


One turtle is good eating for many days and looks like he is not shy about living ruff..... he would be one of the least affected if a collapse came.


Hell ,he might be able to crave out a territory for himself with all he knows about surviving.

Yep, That's my neighbors! I know a couple of guys that hunt turtles. They walk the creeks feeling under the banks to find em' and they still have all their fingers! NOT ME!
Country boys will survive.

You'd be amazed at the multitude of ways you can get hurt with a chainsaw.

Most likely kickback got him, where the saw chain gets in a bind and the saw body kicks back toward the operator. Had one come within a fraction of an inch of my face once.

Hey, that was pretty impressive.
I have had a few run ins with Snappers and they are scary critters. They are not cute like other turtles..
My Daughter and I move them off the road after big rains so they wont get run over and the damn things hiss at you. They show no appreciation..
The things I don't like is they get covered in mud and are camouflaged and you run right up on them when walking by the pond..

Each to their own though, if hunting turtles is your thing, and
they're not endangered. Go for it. Snakes could be a problem as he
said though... sadly many snakes aren't that afraid of water...

A chainsaw can kick back. Modern saws have a chain brake that tries to kick in if the saw kicks back to stop it running, but the force is still enough to smash you badly and the chain will run on for a while, inflicting more damage.

In the bad old days I guess the saw would just keep running.. ugh...

He was trying to sharpen them with the saw in case he needed to bite a turtle. Then his pal patted him on the back. It was pretty messy.
